Maternity Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology - expectant mother

Maternity Reflexology in Pre conception, Pregnancy, Labour, Postnatal period.

Maternity Reflexology is aimed specifically at women during pre-conception, pregnancy, labour and the post-natal period.

During your pregnancy, your body will go through significant changes; these changes will affect the emotional, hormonal and physiological balance of your body. Reflexology can help to alleviate or prevent discomfort arising from this imbalance and restore the body’s equilibrium.

Research has shown that regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy can shorten the duration of labour, with many women requiring less pain-relief (Dr Motha, UK, 1994 www.gentlebirthmethod.com).

Fertility and pre-conception

There is no doubt that experiencing sub-fertility can be an extremely stressful time for all concerned. It is well acknowledged by the medical profession that stress is often a contributing factor in an individual’s ability to conceive.

What is important therefore in the early weeks and months of a couple trying to conceive is that they understand what the “stress” factors are likely to be for them and ensure that a number of steps are put into place to alleviate them as much as it is possible.

This is why I like to see both partners in the early stages in order to” out” the concerns and share with them a number of simple techniques they can use together and separately to reduce the stress, anxiety and tensions as they arise.

By taking this approach in the early stages and guiding individual’s through any necessary or appropriate lifestyle changes, I believe a number of women will conceive simply because they have been able to take the right action for them, thereby reducing their anxieties and improve their well being.

If you are undergoing fertility treatment, and taking Drugs, such as clomiphene, it is advisable to” hold off “reflexology until the course is completed. A reflexology will stimulate normal ova production rather than multiple ova production.

Pregnancy

General relaxation
Increased energy levels
Ease physiological discomforts

Reflexology is safe and effective during pregnancy. However, I do not recommend Maternity Reflexology, if there is a history of premature labour, severe hypertension, placenta previa or recent vaginal bleeding. If you suspect any problems in your pregnancy it is important to contact your doctor or midwife.
